Records for those former parts of Essex that are now within metropolitan London boroughs (i.e. within Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge or Waltham Forest) may now be held outside the Essex Record Office - it is worth first checking with the London Metropolitan Archives as to where the records you are looking can be found - if they are held at the borough's local studies centre, you can find contact details within this web site's page for London Borough Local Studies Centres

  Content adequate but only just
Navigation the navigation on this redesigned web site is a step backwards and smacks of having been developed by a web designer completely out of touch with the practical needs of those using the site (try finding the opening hours starting at the home page without using the link provided on this web site!) - this is a real shame since Essex's companion online archives website SEAX is so brilliant
