Records for the metropolitan boroughs of London and the official records of the City of London Corporation are held at the London Metropolitan Archives - see below for contact details. Although the London Metropolitan Archives is the principal archive service for the Greater London area, most metropolitan boroughs also maintain their own archive service at their local studies centres . Records can also be found at the county record office for the historical county within which the borough (or part of it) was previously situated

Records for the City of London (other than the official records of the City of London Corporation) are held at the Guildhall Library - see below for contact details

The official records of the City of London Corporation belong to the City of London Records Office and are currently held at London Metropolitan Archives pending the refurbishment of Guildhall - it is intended that the official City of London archives will be returned to Guildhall in 2008/09 once this refurbishment has been completed

Records for the City of Westminster are held at the City of Westminster Archives Centre - see below for contact details
