Records for the metropolitan boroughs of London are held at the London Metropolitan Archives - see below for contact details. Although the London Metropolitan Archives is the principal archive service for the Greater London area, most metropolitan boroughs also maintain their own archive service at their local studies centres . Records can also be found at the county record office for the historical county within which the borough (or part of it) was previously situated The official records of the City of London Corporation belong to the City of London Records Office and can be viewed in the Manuscripts Section of the Guildhall Library . These include parish registers relating to the "square mile" of the City. Publications of key interest to family historians can currently be viewed in the Printed Books Section. These include trade, professional and telephone directories for London and elsewhere together with the electoral registers and census returns for the City. See the printed books section within the library's Sources for Genealogical Research webpage for a full list of major printed sources held at the Guildhall Library. Records for the City of Westminster are held at the City of Westminster Archives Centre - see below for contact details |
